Clothes moth control for wardrobes and homes

The small moth that flies out when you open the wardrobe is not what put the holes in your sweater. The larva eats the clothes, and it hides in the folds and dark corners.

How do we get rid of moths?

Clothes moth control starts with the type: clothes moths in the wardrobe, or pantry moths in the kitchen. For clothes, we ask you to empty the wardrobe and wash what is infested, and we treat the cracks and corners. For food, we throw out the infested packages and treat the shelf cracks. Unless the source gets cleaned, any spray only cuts down the moths you can see.

Signs of moths

  • Holes in wool and silk

Small holes in sweaters, scarves and suits, often in hidden places such as under the collar.

  • A small, light gold moth

It scurries more than it flies, avoids light and heads for the wardrobe. If you see one in front of a light in the living room, it may be another type.

  • Small cases or threads

Bag-like cocoons the same color as the fabric, or fine silk threads on your clothes.

  • Threads in food containers

Cobweb-like threads in flour, rice or spices, along with small white worms. These are pantry moths, and they have a different treatment.

  • A moth flying around the kitchen

A slightly larger gray and brown moth that moves around the kitchen at night and rests on the wall.

Where do moths come from?

Clothes moth larvae feed on natural fibers: wool, silk, fur and feathers. Their favorite is clothing with sweat or food stains, especially when it goes from one season to the next without a wash. They usually come in with used clothes or carpets.

Pantry moths arrive in a bag of flour, pasta, rice, spices or pet food, and moths come out of it and lay eggs on the rest of the shelf. That is why the moths return after every spray as long as the bag is still there.

Closed, dark wardrobes are where moths live. Things that get moved around from time to time are rarely affected. The old clothes at the back of the shelf and the corners that never get wiped are where we start.

Where we look

  • Folds of wool clothing
  • Winter storage bags and blankets
  • Wardrobe corners and cracks
  • Carpets and wall-to-wall carpeting under furniture
  • Flour, rice and spice containers
  • Cracks in kitchen shelves

How does clothes moth control work?

  1. 1

    We identify the type

Send us a photo of the moth, the holes or the package. Then we give you the price and the time, and tell you what to do before the visit.

  2. 2

    Emptying and cleaning

We ask you to empty the wardrobe and wash or dry-clean what is infested. In the kitchen, throw out infested food in a sealed bag.

  3. 3

    Treating cracks and corners

The technician treats cracks in the wardrobe and floor, the wall-to-wall carpeting, or the shelf cracks. We do not spray on clothes or food.

  4. 4

    Storage advice

We show you how to store your clothes, what can stay out and what should be closed up in sealed bags.

  5. 5

We write it down and follow up

The product name and how long to stay away are on the receipt. We follow up with you because the eggs and pupae die off in stages.

Are mothballs and scented sachets enough?

Mothballs smell strong and only kill what is hiding inside a tightly sealed space, and they are dangerous if a child puts one in their mouth or a pet eats one. Lavender sachets may keep moths away a little, but they do nothing to the larvae already there.

What makes a difference: wash clothes before you store them, put them out in the sun from time to time and keep wool in sealed bags. In the kitchen, keep grains in sealed containers and wipe the shelf before you put new packages on it.

Safety with children and pets

Clothes and food come out first, and the product goes into cracks and corners, never on what you wear or eat. The wardrobe gets aired out before the clothes go back, and the time is written on the receipt.

Tell us if there is a small child or anyone with allergies at home, especially if the wardrobe is in their bedroom.

Everything is in writing before we start

Questions about clothes moths

Do I have to wash all my clothes?

Not all of them, but wool, silk and anything that has gone a while without a wash should definitely be washed. The technician will tell you about the rest based on what the wardrobe looks like. Clean cotton clothes usually do not need it.

Will the holes in my clothes close up?

No, treatment only stops the damage. The holes need darning, but the garment can stay in good shape after that.

Does the moth in my kitchen eat clothes?

No, that is most likely a pantry moth. Check your flour, rice and spice containers, and send us a photo of whatever you find.

Are mothballs enough?

No, they do not solve an infestation you already have, and their smell and the risk to children are real drawbacks. If you want to use something, store your clothes in sealed bags.

Can you treat the carpets and wardrobe in the same visit?

Yes. Tell us how many pieces and rooms there are when you book, so we can give you the right price.

How long is the warranty?

The warranty is 5 years, and it is written on the receipt with its terms, along with the storage method we agree on.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the number of wardrobes or rooms, and you get the price by phone. It is written down before we start, and it does not go up after you agree.
