Flea treatment for your home

Bites around your ankles, a cat that will not stop scratching, and a tiny insect jumping off the rug before you can get a look at it. The flea you see is a small part of the total. The rest are eggs and larvae in the carpet.

How do we get rid of fleas?

Flea treatment covers carpets, floors and the spots where your pet sleeps. The product we use deals with the fleas and stops the egg cycle. If you have a pet, a vet has to treat it at the same time, or it will bring the fleas back indoors. You may still see fleas for a short time afterward, because the cocoons take a while to hatch.

Signs of fleas

  • Bites around the ankles

Small, itchy red bumps in clusters, usually on the legs because fleas jump up from the floor.

  • A pet that keeps scratching

If your cat or dog scratches and bites its skin all the time, part the fur at the neck and the top of the tail and look closely.

  • A small insect jumping off the carpet

Very small, dark brown and quick to jump. They can show up more easily on white socks as you walk across the carpet.

  • Black specks in fur or bedding

Put the specks on a wet tissue. If they run reddish brown, they are flea droppings.

  • Fleas after you get back from a trip

When a home stays closed for a while, the cocoons sense movement and footsteps and hatch together, so it feels like the fleas appeared out of nowhere.

Where do fleas come from?

Most arrive with a pet, or with street cats that sleep at the entrance, in the garden or under the car. They can also come in on your clothes or with a used rug. In homes with no animals at all, the source may be an animal that lived there before you or a cat getting into the air shaft.

The adult flea lives on the animal, and its eggs fall to the floor. The larva hides in carpet pile and between floor joints, away from light, and then wraps itself in a cocoon. The cocoon is the hardest stage because most products cannot reach it, and that is why spraying once does not end the problem.

So we tell you from the start what to expect. Treatment brings the numbers down quickly, and the rest die off as the cocoons hatch and meet the product.

Where we look

  • In and under carpet pile
  • Floor joints and baseboards
  • Where your cat or dog sleeps
  • Under sofas and beds
  • Entrance and air shaft
  • Garden and shady spots

How does flea treatment work?

  1. 1

We talk it through by phone

Do you have a pet? Does your home have carpets or bare floors? Then we give you the price and the time, and tell you what to prepare.

  2. 2

    Preparing the space

We ask you to vacuum the carpets well before the visit and pick things up off the floor. Vacuuming lifts the pile and helps the product reach in.

  3. 3

    Treating carpets and floors

The technician treats carpets, floor joints, under furniture and the spots where your pet spends time, with a product that stops the egg cycle.

  4. 4

    Outdoor areas if needed

If the source is the air shaft or garden, we treat the shady spots where cats sleep.

  5. 5

We write it down and follow up

The product name and how long to stay away are on the receipt, and we follow up with you until the cocoons are gone.

Why aren't powder and spray enough?

A spray kills the fleas it touches, while the eggs and cocoons stay in the carpet. Pet powders that were not prescribed can harm the animal, cats especially, so ask your vet first.

What really makes a difference: vacuum the carpets daily in the days after treatment, throw the vacuum bag away outside your home, wash your pet's bedding in hot water and get your pet treated by the vet.

Safety with children and pets

Pets and children stay away from the area until the floors are completely dry. The technician tells you how long based on the product, and it is written on the receipt.

Tell us when you book if a baby crawls on the floor, if anyone has allergies or asthma, or if someone at home is pregnant. If you have fish in a tank or birds, let us know so we can tell you what to cover or move.

Questions about fleas

Why do I still see fleas after the visit?

That is normal for a short time, because cocoons hatch after the treatment. Keep vacuuming the carpets, since that makes them hatch faster. If it drags on, call us.

I don't have cats or dogs. Where did they come from?

They could come from a cat that sits by your door or in the air shaft, an animal that lived in the apartment before you or a used rug. It does not have to be your own pet.

Do fleas live on people?

They bite people when they find them, but they do not settle on you the way they do on animals. That is why any animal at home has to be treated, since it is usually the source of the eggs.

What happens with my cat during treatment?

Keep your cat out of the house until the floors are dry, and the technician will tell you how long. Treating the cat itself is the vet's job, and the floor product is not for that.

Do I have to take up the carpets?

No, carpets are treated where they are. They do need vacuuming before and after the visit.

How long is the warranty?

The warranty is 5 years, and it is written on the receipt with its terms. If fleas come back during that time after your pet has been treated, call us and we come back and treat again.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the size of the place and the extent of the infestation, and you get the price by phone. It is written down before we start, and it does not go up after you agree.
