The German cockroach is small and light brown. It lives in the kitchen and bathroom, close to food, water and warmth. It breeds quickly and arrives in grocery cartons and used appliances, then settles behind cabinets, in door hinges and inside the fridge motor. Gel in those spots is its main treatment.
The American cockroach is large and reddish brown, and most of them come up from the sewer and floor drains. If you see one in the bathroom or near a drain, we need to treat the line itself and the drain has to be sealed well. Spraying inside your home will not reach where it lives.
