Bed bug treatment and removal

If you wake up with bites in a line on your arm or back and cannot explain them, look along the edge of your mattress. Bed bugs hide well, and a quick spray usually leaves their eggs untouched.

Technician treating the edge of a mattress for bed bugs in a bedroom

How do we get rid of bed bugs for good?

Bed bugs are treated in stages, because the eggs are harder to deal with than the insects. We treat mattresses with heat, apply insecticide in the cracks around the bed and furniture, and follow up to catch any eggs that hatch. The treatment covers every hiding place, and the bed is only one of them.

How can you tell you have bed bugs?

  • Bites in a line or in clusters

Usually on skin left uncovered while you sleep, such as your arms and neck. The bites alone do not prove it, because some people show no reaction at all.

  • Blood spots on the sheets

Small red spots that appear when a full bed bug gets crushed as you turn over in your sleep.

  • Black dots along the mattress edge

These are bed bug droppings. You find them in the mattress seams and the joints of wooden beds. Wipe one with damp cotton and it leaves a dark smear.

  • Light brown shells

Bed bugs shed their skin as they grow and leave these shells in the same places where they hide.

  • A small, flat brown insect

An adult is close to the size of an apple seed. They move mostly at night, so if you often see them in the daytime, the numbers have grown.

  • A distinct smell in the room

With a large infestation you may notice a sharp smell in the bedroom, especially when it has been closed up.

Where did they come from, and where do they hide?

Bed bugs have nothing to do with how clean your home is. They travel in luggage after a trip, on secondhand furniture, or from apartment to apartment in the same building through cracks and electrical conduits. The cleanest home can get them, so there is no reason to feel embarrassed.

A bed bug feeds on blood, then goes back to hide in a narrow crack close to where you sleep, and it can live a long time without feeding. That is why a home left locked up does not clear itself.

Because they hide in any crack, throwing out the mattress rarely solves the problem. The bugs stay in the bed frame and the wall, and the new mattress gets infested too.

Where we look

  • Mattress seams and edges
  • Bed joints and headboard
  • Cracks in sofas and armchairs
  • Baseboards and wallpaper
  • Electrical boxes beside the bed
  • Wardrobes and nightstands

How does the treatment work?

  1. 1

    We agree by phone

We ask about the symptoms, the number of rooms and where people sleep. Then we give you the price and the time, and explain what to prepare before the technician arrives.

  2. 2

    We locate the infestation

The technician starts with the bed and mattresses, then the sofas, furniture and nearby cracks, so the treatment reaches every place bed bugs hide.

  3. 3

    Heat treatment for mattresses

Heat reaches into the mattress seams and deals with the bugs without soaking the mattress in insecticide.

  4. 4

    Insecticide for cracks

We apply insecticide in the cracks of the bed, baseboards and furniture. We write the product name on the receipt and tell you how long to wait before going back into the room.

  5. 5

    Follow-up for the eggs

Eggs take time to hatch, so the follow-up is part of the treatment. We set its date with you from the start.

Why isn't a supermarket spray enough?

A spray kills only the bugs it touches. The eggs and the ones deep in a crack stay where they are. In many cases spraying pushes bed bugs into another room, so the problem grows instead of ending.

What you can do until we arrive: wash sheets and clothes kept near the bed in hot water, vacuum the mattress and cracks, then seal the vacuum bag well and throw it away outside.

Avoid sleeping in another room or moving furniture around. The bugs will follow you, and you will end up with two infested rooms instead of one.

Safety with children and pets

The room is cleared of people and pets during treatment. The technician tells you how long based on the product used, and we talk specifically about children and pregnant women before we start.

The insecticide goes into cracks, not onto the surface of your sheets, and mattresses are treated with heat. If anyone at home has allergies or asthma, tell us when you book so we can take it into account.

Everything is in writing before we start

With bed bug treatment, the worry is promises nobody wrote down. This is the sheet the technician hands you.

Questions about bed bugs

Do bed bugs mean my home is dirty?

Not at all. Bed bugs travel in luggage and secondhand furniture, and we see them in very clean homes. You have no reason to feel embarrassed telling us. This is our job.

Do I have to throw out the mattress?

In most cases, no. The mattress gets treated, and throwing it out does not solve the problem because bed bugs are also in the bed frame and the cracks. If it is old and torn, that is your decision.

What should I do before the technician comes?

Wash the sheets in hot water, empty the wardrobe next to the bed if you can, and do not move furniture to another room. We will give you the details by phone based on your situation.

Will the bed bugs be gone after the first visit?

The insects present get treated during the visit, but the eggs take their time. That is why there is a follow-up, and it is not realistic to expect everything to end in one day.

When can I sleep in the room again?

The technician will tell you exactly how long, based on the product used, and it is written on the receipt. Stay out of the room until then.

Does the warranty cover bed bugs?

Yes. The warranty is 5 years and it is written on the receipt with its terms. If bed bugs come back during that time, call us and we come back and treat again.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the number of rooms and the extent of the infestation, and you get the price by phone. It is written down before we start, and it does not go up after you agree.
